Just wanted to make 2 corrections to my commentary on the HCR Bill:
- The basis for Medicare Advantage Reimbursements will be the level of FFS spending, NOT on population. FFS spending is pretty closely correlated with population, but it’s not the same thing. In the highest 25% grouping of FFS spending, CMS will pay 95% to the MA carrier. The next 25% grouping will get 100%. Next 25% will get 107.5% and the lowest grouping in terms on FFS spend will get 115%. If I get a chance, I’ll pull some data on this. Keep in mind, this goes into effect in 2012.
- The indexing on the income levels for the Medicare Surtax on earned and unearned income may begin in 2014. This is not indexed to inflation through 2013. I thought this meant it would not be indexed, but I haven’t been able to find clear information on this one way or the other. I assume the income levels will be indexed beginning in 2014.
