This is a good article on how the enrollment periods for Medicare Part B work. As agents, it’s a good idea to understand when a Medicare Beneficiary can defer Part B and utilize their Special Enrollment into Part B and when a Medicare Beneficiary doesn’t qualify for Special Enrollment into Part B and gets stuck in “General Enrollment” where they must wait until January 1st through March 31st to apply for Part B and don’t get covered until July 1st (and pay a Part B penalty for the rest of their lives). It’s important to remember that Part B can only be deferred due to ACTIVE EMPLOYMENT of self or spouse. Deferring Part B for any other reason can have bad outcomes!
