I listened to the Humana Conference call last night. I find this call to be most informative when it comes to gathering insights into what’s happening in Medicare Advantage.
You can listen to the call if you like (it’s over an hour long).
The one highlight I found most interesting was in a slide Humana put together to comparing their Local PPO to Medicare Supplement with a PDP.
You can find the slide on the Humana website by clicking here. (Click on the “Presentation” link under “Supporting Materials” and Go to page 7). All in pricing for 2010 is estimated around $121/month.
You can find the current premium of the Plan in Des Moines, IA by putting zip code 50307 into our quote engine. OK, I won’t make you do it, it’s $9/month. If you assume that Member cost share is around $60/month (ballpark estimate), 2009 “all in” pricing would be around $69/month.
Putting this together would translate into a $52 premium increase (with no benefit changes).
This pretty much confirms what I’ve been thinking about 2010 Medicare Advantage Benefit designs. It’s just nice to see that my numbers are being confirmed.
These changes are the basis of my “Future of Medicare” Webex on May 27th. (see events calendar for details!)
