Here is the article from Healthcare Finance News. Non-profit HMO, Senior Care Action Network or SCAN, will repay $190M to the state of California and $129M to the Federal government. SCAN commented on the settlement via a press release on their website. The investigation found no wrong doing reported on behalf of SCAN or it’s current or prior employees. Susan Hershman, an assistant U.S. attorney on the case, told the Los Angeles Times. “It was a mistake by the state of California.”

Wellpoint to Acquire Caremore

This past Thursday, Wellpoint announced a deal to acquire Medicare Advantage provider, Caremore. Caremore operates in 3 states: CA, NV and AZ. Caremore has approximately 54,000 members. The terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, however, it has been reported that Wellpoint will pay $800 million for Caremore. The deal is expected to close before the end of this year.

Craig Ritter will be hosting a special webex presentation for agents who are impacted by CMS’ announcement on Friday that Health Net, Arcadian and Universal American will be placed on Marketing Sanctions.
The call will take place at 3pm EASTERN TIME (Noon PACIFIC TIME) on Tuesday, November 23rd. We apologize for the short notice, however, this announcement just came out Friday afternoon and we wanted to talk about it prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday to give agents time to take some action.
All agents are welcome to attend, but the call will focus on the states of California, Virginia, Texas, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maine, Arizona and Oregon, which are the states we believe are most highly affected.

Anthem Blue Cross and UC Davis Medical Center Reach Provider Agreement on Medicare Advantage Plans

UC Davis Medical Center serves more than 200,000 patients/year in the Sacramento County area.
Anthem Blue Cross and UC Davis Medical Center have reached an agreement which makes the UC Davis Medical Center an in-network provider for Anthem Blue Cross Medicare Advantage products.
