In October, Humana, a Medicare Advantage HMO, PPO and PFFS organization, announced that several of its Medicare Advantage (MA) plans received 4.5 stars on the 5-star rating system from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
While all of the carrier’s MA plans received 3.5 stars or more on CMS’ 5-star rating system, 12 Humana MA contracts received 4 stars or more. A total of 5 Humana MA contracts, offered in eight states, received 4.5 out 5 stars. About 74 percent of Humana’s MA members are enrolled in plans rated 4 stars or more.
A full breakdown of ratings can be found at Medicare.gov. CMS bases the ratings on information taken from member-satisfaction surveys, health plans, and healthcare providers. They consider over 40 quality measures in the following categories:
- Screening tests and vaccines
- Managing chronic (long-term) conditions
- Member experience with the health plan
- Complaints and changes in the plan’s performance
- Health plan customer service
