Harrisburg-based PinnacleHealth System completed its purchase of four mid-state hospitals over the weekend.
The non-profit acquired Lancaster Regional Medical Center and Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in Lancaster County, Memorial Hospital in York County, and Carlisle Regional Medical Center in Cumberland County. The sale expands the system’s presence beyond its three current hospitals in the Harrisburg area.
According to the press release, PinnacleHealth now owns and operates seven hospitals with more than 8,000 employees and 1,435 total medical staff members, as well as 132 outpatient and ancillary facilities.
PinnacleHealth System signed a letter of intent to affiliate with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on March 14 after ending a merger effort with Penn State Health last fall. Regulatory approvals in the UPMC deal are still pending.
