Obama to Sign Payroll Tax Cut Extension and 10 Month Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Fix

Obama has promised to sign this bill as soon as it hits his desk.  The bill extends the Payroll tax cuts and also fixes the Medicare Physician Fee schedule which would have been cut by 27% on March 1st.

Here is the story from a Fox news affiliate.

  • It is amazing to me that nobody reports on the long list of other programs that are funded with this bill (or other bills). An important program in the bill is the funding for the QI program for Medicare beneficiaries.

Through the QI program, states have a limited amount of money from which they must pay, on a first come, first serve basis, the Medicare Part B premium for Medicare beneficiaries with incomes between 120% and 135% of the federal poverty level. In 2012, the limit for this group is $1,256.63/month ($15,079.50/year) for an individual; $1,702.13/month ($20,425.50/year) for a couple.

  • The bill has nothing to do with Med supps only the doctor payment fix.

Does this mean that Medicare Supplement commissions are safe for now?
