CLASS Act Implementation Delayed One Year per HHS

The Department of Health and Human Services announced that the implementation of the CLASS Act (the long term care benefit included in the Health Care reform Bill) would be delayed one year until they can ensure the sustainability of the program.  The story is in the Politico.

May have argued that this piece of the health care reform bill was included to make the overall cost of Health Care Reform look less since this program collects money in the early years and doesn’t start paying benefits for many years to come.  That said, the funds which are collected are not held in reserve (like an insurance company), but rather spent on other programs.
