Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Posts a Profit of $12.6 Million in 2009

The profit was in spite of losses on individual business.  Under 65 individual business posted a loss of $94 million and Over 65 MEDIGAP business posted a loss of $186 million. The losses were offset by interest earnings on their investment portfolio and earnings in their group business. The surplus currently stands at $2.56 Billion….

CMS Delays Processing of Physician Bills to Allow Congress Time to Avert 21% Cut in Physician’s Fee Schedule

Here is an update from the WSJ Blog. Essentially, by delaying the processing of claims for 10 days, it gives Congress 14 days to put a fix in place.

Virginia-Based Maximus Wins Award from CMS to Provide Review Services for Part D Coverage Determinations

March 1st, 2010 Update: CMS Delays Implementation of Physician Fee Schedule Cut

Today is the day that the Physicians were to get a 21.2% cut in their Medicare Reimbursements, however, CMS is delaying implementing this for 2 weeks or until the Senate can pass a “fix”. Here is an article for this story.  I looked on the CMS website, but couldn’t find a reference there.
