Humana’s profit rose on increased profitability in the Medicare Advantage market and better management of their Part D business. The increases were offset somewhat by worse performance in their commercial health business.
Recall that in 2009, Humana made a bold move by initiating premiums on virtually all of their PFFS book of business and much of their network business as well. This, combined with some membership growth, resulted in a 12% increase in revenue on their Government business.
