Here are some links to stories about Medicare Advantage and Health Reform in general. I’m seeing so many stories, it’s tough to keep up, so I’m going to post one or two comments and the link:
Popular Medicare Program May be a Target, Sacramento Bee. Story about a Medicare Advantage member who believes his MA plan saved his life. Story notes that California has 1.5 million MA members or 34% of all Medicare Beneficiaries which makes California the highest enrollment state (both in total and % numbers).
Shultz: Don’t cut Medicare Advantage, Daily News Tribune. Authored by Eric Schultz, President and CEO of Fallon Community Health Plan. Cites statistics in a study authored by Gerard Anderson, Ph. D., researcher at Johns Hopkins University. Study found MA plans resulted in 27% lower hospital readmission rate and 85% lower Preventable hospital admission rate than Original “Fee for Service” Medicare. Notes that 200,000 seniors in Massachusetts rely on Medicare Advantage.
Health Reform at What Price?, Denver Post. Story muses over how $500 billion will be cut from Medicare citing only “Waste and Fraud”.
Health care In Fantasy Land, Republican American. Questions how adding 46 million uninsured, mandating coverage for pre-existing conditions, mandating preventative services, mandating insurance companies pay a greater portion of out of pocket expenses, removing any lifetime caps on insurance coverage, will result in lower medical expenses and lower premiums when insurance companies aren’t able to amass the $70 Trillion in unfunded liabilities, like Medicare has.
Transcript of Senators on Fox News Sunday, Washington Post. Features Claire McCaskill, Orrin Hatch, Lindsey Graham and Kent Conrad.
