if there is guarranteed issue and no limitations on treatment for pre-existing, I’ll buy an inexpensive accident and dread disease policy, pay the penalty, and apply for coverage only when I have been diagnosed with something which requires expensive treatment. After all, they would have to take me and could not exclude treatment for what would then be a pre-existing condition. Under these circumstances, why would anyone in their right mind buy major medical coverage?
because of the penalty? My wife and I pay over $1000 per month for high deductible coverage now, over $12,000 per year. An $1800 penalty would be a godsend in exchange!
And tax credits for low income and small business to help pay for the cost of coverage? Low income people and many small businesses pay little or now taxes against which to use a credit!
Great point Reggie. I don’t know if there will be any restrictions on when you can enroll if you choose not to participate. I know there was a huge fuss over the “Late Enrollment Penalty” for Part D (some didn’t want there to be a penalty), but that was, frankly, a necessity to get everyone “in the pool”.
