The first stories are coming out now on the massive impact the 2010 CMS Capitation rate reduction is going to have on 2010 Medicare Advantage plan premiums and benefits.
Here is a blog posting from US News and World Report. This interviewee does a pretty good job of explaining the impact on the 11 million Medicare Advantage members. My only correction is that instead of a 1% increase (actually 0.6% to be exact), when factoring in the changes to coding density and Indirect Medical Education payments, the net effect was a 4% to 5% DECREASE.
Anyway, here is the article. I’m sure there will be plenty more like this as word starts to leak about about the impact on 2010 MA plans.

Some Medicare Advantage Companies have sent out 2010 marketing materials. ( I am certified for 2010.) In view of the
above will these plans be changing to reflect the new 8-10%
increase???

Natalie:
The capitation rate reductions are baked into the 2010 plan offerings. I’m not aware of any companies that have 2010 marketing materials ready. Most companies will struggle to get these out by October 1st!
