Nancy Kane is a Harvard professor and a Commissioner on the MedPAC board. She writes an Opinion in the New York Times that if Medicare’s Payments are cut for In-patient hospitalizations, the costs will shift to some other place (like squeezing a balloon). Costs will most likely be shifted to Private Insurance. Kane argues that a Governmental Agency needs to regulate payment rates for both Public and Private insurance. I’m quite sure that medical providers would be quite opposed to this type of “reform”. Here is the whole article.
