I hear you Mary. I also am grateful. I met with a client last Saturday as a ride-along with another agent. These people (mother and son) had the most challenges of anyone I had met, they looked to each other for their support and they were happy, feeling blessed and surviving the best way they knew how. We also had a neighboring caregiver at the appt. I heard this week that the mom had passed on Tuesday. I have so much sympathy for her son (who will move in with a sister now) but I am so thankful for the way that we have helped them and assisted them over the past few years and that I extended my hand and wished them both well at the end of the appt.
It seems that those in need the most, complain the least and are so very, very thankful to receive the guidance that we give them. I do enjoy my work and seem to have a talent in helping others sift through all of the paperwork and their concerns, etc. I sure hope they make it so that this line of work remains a viable career for me.
One of the repetitive themes of the week was doing the right thing at all times regardless of the commissions has long standing consequences and rewards. One household…husband and wife, both married twice, each spouse had thier business taken over by thier children. The wife was placed in the nursing home. The husband stayed in the apartment. Thier policys were unpaid this past July-each with 6 months due. The wife’s policy had been placed by me, but the commissions had gone to another agent. But, I did all the service work to get the poliies caught up. The husband had not really been enthusiastic about having insurance as he was a veteran. But, I was out there this week to help his daughter take over his business and she was sure grateful she could take her Dad to the local hospital to get varous testing done for serveral conditions. And we were able to place him with another carrier with higher premium for next year that the daugher will pay. Another household the wife was diagnosed with Alzheimers and the man had trouble hearing me, so I asked them to give me the phone number of a family number which they did. I was able to get referrals from the daughter’s husband for his parents. Although it is mentally hard to deal with these things, it has much reward.
There are almost 1,000,000 unemployed people out there, many wothout homes. I am grateful to have this type of work to do, a warm house, and food on the table!
I think it would be nice as we go over the holidays if there were 2 new blog posts. One could be the funny things that have happened on the road with the sales appts and/or the good jokes that we’re learning from our clients and the other could be Agent Learning on the Road. The things that we learned and continue to learn as we solve client concerns, etc. This is a great forum for helping each agent be the best they can be. I for one am tired of training and certifying again and again on the regulations without any real training on all of the nuances that would help agents with their clients. More things on PACE, LIS, Pre-Auths, EyeMed, HearUSA, Gym membership info including Forever Fit and Silver Sneakers, what companies are the most popular in each county and area, etc.
My one client said that HE and HIS wife have been married 60 some years and that they used to look a lot better when they first got married. He said they kind of looked like a new house. She was PAINTED and he was PLASTERED… LOL…
