I’ve been getting a number of questions on 2009 Certification and who and why someone might want to attend our Medicare Advantage Conference (click link to see more details) in Hershey, PA on September 22nd and 23rd.
1. I can’t attend the Conference, can I still get certified to sell Medicare Advantage products with Ritter Insurance Marketing?
Absolutely, the Conference is simply an additional “Value Add” from Ritter Insurance Marketing, you are in no way required to go. Read on!
2. I don’t want to spend the $195 to attend, can I still certify for free with Ritter Insurance Marketing?
Absolutely, there will be options available for you to get certified for free. See #8 below.
Additionally, you may even have your admission price refunded. See #3
3. If I can certify for free, why would I spend $195?
First, we’d like to announce some great news, thanks to our companies sponsorships, if you generate 20 enrollments (MA or MAPD) during AEP with the sponsor companies, your $195 registration fee will be returned! So, if you will be able to write a moderate amount of Medicare Advantage business, the conference will be free for you.
Second, the goal of the conference is about much more than just certifying you, we will have content at the meeting to help you grow your business. In fact, we have so much product, sales and certification content to do, we’re struggling to squeeze it all into 2 full days.
4. What if I can’t do 20 enrollments?
The purpose of the convention is enable a producer with the desire to write Medicare Advantage with the tools to INCREASE their production. Our goal is to give you the product knowledge, sales ideas, marketing tips, etc. to give you the best opportunity to write as much business as possible. So, even a small production increase could make the meeting worthwhile.
For example, even if you can write ONLY one extra case as a result of attending the meeting, the commission on that sale would more than cover the entire meeting cost! We believe you will do that AND MORE.
5. That’s great, Craig, but I just have a small number of enrollments to do. Should I attend?
Probably not. Similar to a Long Term Care conference or an Annuity conference, if you aren’t in that line of business, it’s probably the wrong place for you to be. Of course, just because you don’t attend a Medicare Advantage conference doesn’t mean you can’t sell Medicare Advantage products. In any case, there is absolutely NO REQUIREMENT for you to attend.
We can still help get you certified. . .(see #8, below).
6. Why are you waiting until late September to do Certification when others are doing meetings earlier?
Three reasons:
- Companies CMS filings will not be finalized until September. Any trainings in July and August will be based on filed plans, so the approved plan may be different. Makes sense to us to do the product training once when the product is finalized.
- Some companies will not have their certification completed until September 1st or later, so you simply can’t certify with all companies until all certifications are released in September.
- We believe you will have best recall and the highest confidence in your product knowledge if you certify closer to the time you will be presenting the product. This meeting is perfectly timed just one week prior to October 1st, which is the first time you can talk about 2009 products.
7. What additional content will be available to help expand my business?
Sales and Marketing content will be handled on day 2 along with the Certification. At this point it’s hard to say exactly how much time we can devote to Sales and Marketing because none of the companies has released their certification requirements. Once the companies release their certification requirements (how long they will take to complete, etc.), we will survey the agents attending as to how many certifications they believe they will need to set up a certification schedule for the computer lab.
When you are not busy certifying, we will fill your Down time with business building sessions. Some topics we are working on:
Craig Ritter – “Web 2.0 Marketing for Independent Insurance Agents” With the CMS marketing changes which will take place in 2009, there will be major affects with marketing. Cold Calling will be banned. Direct mail returns will decrease as more direct mail is sent. The Ritter Insurance website receives 6,000 internet seach hits/month and we are using our expertise to benefit the individual agent. Learn how to use the internet as the Medicare Market moves online–spending little-to- no money.
Dave Firestone/Amy Ike - Partnering with Ritter Insurance Marketing and Aetna to close Aetna’s sales leads. Aetna will generate at least 5,000 sales leads in select PA markets in November and December of 2008. How can you partner with Ritter Insurance and Aetna to work these leads (at no charge) and still receive the full GA commission?
Mark Trimble – How to present a CMS compliant Aetna Seminar. Agents who are working the 5,000 sales leads will also need to present a CMS compliant Aetna Seminar. Aetna will be paying 100% of the seminar cost for those who are participating.
Dale Beagle – How to work with the Geisinger Health Plan internal agents to expand your business opportunities. Leverage your time and energy and let the Geisinger reps do the seminar presentation for you, AND you still receive the full GA commission. Plus, you pay nothing for the seminar!
Bob O’Connor – Working “Next Day” appointments with Health America. Health America will be offering select agents, “Next Day” appointments. Learn how to earn full GA commissions and pay nothing for the appointments. “Next Day” appointments will be available in select PA counties.
AND MORE TO COME!!

Best idea I have seen for getting certified in 2 days for 5 different companies and elimination the one day seminars that are a waste of time. In addition we get a chance to hear 5 companies executive speak on each product. I bet the best part will be the break out sessions where we can learn some great sales techniques and more product knowledge.
